Configuring Mac OS X 10.7.3 and Up and Safari browser for Bayard InSite Access
Instructions apply to Mac 10.7.3, 10.8.x and 10.9.x only

InSite relies heavily on the popular Java utility to provide the two way communications for uploading files, approving job proofs and particularly in the use of "SmartReview". Therefore it is imperative that Java be setup properly so it is compatible with both InSite and your own computer.

To accomplish this on a Mac it is necessary to verify your Mac computer has an Apple approved version of Java installed. At this time the latest apple approved version of JAVA is version 6. ( actual numeric designation 1.6 ).

To check which version of JAVA is installed on your Mac follow the instructions below.

First it will be necessary to find and open a program called "Terminal" which is located in the "Utility" folder inside the "Application" folder on your startup "Mac HD".

Double click the "Terminal" program and enter the phrase " java -version " at the block cursor, ( the phrase java -version contains a space between the word "java" and the " - " but no space between the " - " and the word "version"). then press return on your keyboard.

Note: You must be logged into YOUR COMPUTER system as an administrator. If prompted for your administrator password at any point, enter it and then press the return key.

A return of "1.6.XXX " means you should be good and can skip ahead to "Section 3" below.

A return of " 1.7.XXX " or greater means this version of JAVA should be deactivated and an Apple approved JAVA version reactivated on your computer. Proceed to "Section 2" below.

A return of " JAVA Not Installed " means you must install JAVA on your computer.

However before doing anything go to and run the "System Diognostic" on the Bayard InSite Homepage ( login is not necessary and you do not need an account to run the "System Diognostic" ). The "System Diognostic" will indicate if your computer is currently setup to use InSite

Section 2

Reactivation of Apple approved Java 6 in MacOS X 10.6, 10.7, 10.8 and 10.9 and Safari 5.1 to 7.0.3

First, and before performing any of the steps below download and install " Java for OS X 2013-005" from the Apple website - CLICK HERE.

Double click the downloaded file named " JavaForOSX2013-05.dmg " ( usually found in your computers " Download Folder " ) and follow the prompts to install.

Immediately after installing the " Java for OS X 2013-005" update restart your computer.

Then carefully follow the instructions below to completely enable the Apple approved Java version 6 ( actual numeric designation 1.6 ) installed on your computer by the " Java for OS X 2013-005" update.

1. First it will be necessary to find and open a program called "Terminal" which is located in the "Utility" folder inside the "Application" folder on your startup Mac Hard Drive.

Note: You must be logged in to YOUR COMPUTER as an administrator. If prompted for your administrator password after entering one of the following code phrases ( type in red ) in the "Terminal", enter your password and then press the enter / return key.

2. Double click the "Terminal" program and enter the following code:

Note, Please enter the code highlighted in red exactly as listed at the rectangular "Block Cursor" in the "Terminal" utility program. You may copy and past the code into the "Terminal" utility, but be sure not to add any or subtract any characters or spaces. Also be sure that you do not include blank spaces at the beginning or end of the code phrase. After pasting the code phrase press enter / return on your keyboard as indicated. Your cursor will simply move to the next line.

3. Enter this code phrase then press enter / return:

sudo mkdir -p /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/disabled

4. Enter this code phrase then press enter / return:

sudo mv /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/disabled

5. Enter this code phrase then press enter / return:

sudo ln -sf /System/Library/Java/Support/Deploy.bundle/Contents/Resources/JavaPlugin2_NPAPI.plugin /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin

6. Enter this code phrase then press enter / return:

sudo ln -sf /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Commands/javaws /usr/bin/javaws

If the above code is entered properly and completely the Apple-provided Java SE 6 and web plug-in should be completely installed on your computer. Now follow the instructions below to setup Safari on your computer.
