Configuring Mac OS X 10.7.3 and Up and Safari browser for Bayard InSite Access
Instructions apply to Mac 10.7.3, 10.8.x and 10.9.x only
InSite relies heavily on the popular Java utility to provide the two way communications for uploading files, approving job proofs and particularly in the use of "SmartReview". Therefore it is imperative that Java be setup properly so it is compatible with both InSite and your own computer.
To accomplish this on a Mac it is necessary to verify your Mac computer has an Apple approved version of Java installed. At this time the latest apple approved version of JAVA is version 6. ( actual numeric designation 1.6 ).
To check which version of JAVA is installed on your Mac follow the instructions below.
First it will be necessary to find and open a program called "Terminal" which is located in the "Utility" folder inside the "Application" folder on your startup "Mac HD".
Double click the "Terminal" program and enter the phrase " java -version " at the block cursor, ( the phrase java -version contains a space between the word "java" and the " - " but no space between the " - " and the word "version"). then press return on your keyboard.
Note: You must be logged into YOUR COMPUTER system as an administrator. If prompted for your administrator password at any point, enter it and then press the return key.
A return of "1.6.XXX " means you should be good and can skip ahead to "Section 3" below.
A return of " 1.7.XXX " or greater means this version of JAVA should be deactivated and an Apple approved JAVA version reactivated on your computer. Proceed to "Section 2" below.
A return of " JAVA Not Installed " means you must install JAVA on your computer.
However before doing anything go to prepress.bayardprinting.com and run the "System Diognostic" on the Bayard InSite Homepage ( login is not necessary and you do not need an account to run the "System Diognostic" ). The "System Diognostic" will indicate if your computer is currently setup to use InSite
